Happi Tips from Michelle, the self-love goddess!

Each month, one of our glorious Happi Citizens shares with us their tips & techniques for maintaining a happi mind. This month, Michelle McGrath, from the love-filled Sacred Self, shares her experiences. You can also win a pack of Self-love cards, see bottom of the post!

A huge welcome to The Happi Empire, Michelle! Whilst here in The Happi Empire, know that your dreams are totally possible, you are loved for just being you, and you are just where you are meant to be 🙂

Q1. What are your top 3 tips for maintaining a happi mind?

I believe the first key is to realise that your mind is not who you are.  Just because thoughts are arising, doesn’t mean you have to believe them.  Maintain an attitude of curiosity without becoming attached to the content.  Just let them pass through and observe them.  I often have a little dialogue going with my thoughts, ‘oh really? Thanks for the input. That’s interesting.’    I also meditate every night before going to sleep, usually just for 10-15 minutes. It helps me to relax, let go of the day, express gratitude and also ask for any guidance.  A relaxed body usually equals a relaxed mind and vice versa.

Q2. How do you integrate these happy tips into your daily life?

I use affirmations all the time. If I start to get into negative thoughts I have trained myself to snap out of it pretty quickly. I change them to something like ‘I am unique, I am one of a kind. I allow magic to flow from my heart and mind’ (from my Self-love Cards) or ‘I am exactly where I am supposed to be and accepting of all of me’. Now this has been years of endless repetition, but it doesn’t have to take that long if you are consistent.  I have had post-it notes on my mirror, in my wallet and on my computer.  When you are feeling overwhelmed another good tip is to just focus on your breath and the sensation of the air on the inside of your nostrils. You have to really concentrate to do that and so then you find you have forgotten what you were thinking about! 😉

Q3. What advice can you offer citizens that are going through tough times?

Your mind is an incredible tool that you can use to support you. If you don’t agree with the thoughts that it’s presenting to you – then don’t believe them.  Easier said than done I know.  Check out the free worksheet on Byron Katie’s website http://www.thework.com/thework.php where she has a process of self-enquiry into thoughts that are making you feel unhappy.  She poses 4 questions:
  1. Is that true?
  2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
  3. How do you react and what happens when you believe that thought?
  4. Who would you be without that thought?
Another cure-all for me is to get outside and go for a walk.  I immediately start to feel better as soon as I move my body, move my energy and submerse myself in some greenery even if just for a brief time. I breathe more deeply, realise that 95% of whatever I’m worrying about doesn’t really matter.  No matter how badly you are feeling, it will pass like everything does. Often as soon as you stop resisting the feelings that are making you feel uncomfortable or confronted, they shift and change anyway.  I also take vibrational essences regularly as I find them so supportive and they balance the emotions so quickly.

Q4. And finally, what dream are you creating this year for your beautiful self?

My dream this year is to create a whole series of ebooks about loving yourself in different ways: mentally, emotionally, physically, nutritionally, spiritually, financially and sexually.  I have also just finished my Self-love range of 33 Alchemical Oils (this week!) after 9 years. So I will also be very focussed on continuing to send them around the world, spreading self-love.

Thank you for sharing your tips with us Michelle! <3
